Adobe Roadshow

Yesterday I went to the Adobe RIA Roadshow to get the latest word on using the newest Adobe tools for interaction design and enterprise solutions.

Marcel Boucher from Adobe all the way in Ottawa, Canada was on hand to dazzle us with an overview of Adobe’s solutions for Rich Internet Application (RIA) development tools with an emphasis on enterprise solutions.

Here’s an overview of some  of Adobe’s RIA tools.

Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR)

New York Times AIR Application

New York Times AIR Application

The Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) environment, formerly known as Apollo, allows you to run Flex, Flash, and AJAX applications on your desktop.  AIR is an appropriate name because AIR apps don’t usually have the browser around it.  They are floating free on your screen, but you can be connected to the internet while you are using them.

You can also drag and drop from other programs on your computer right onto the AIR application!  Adobe AIR runtime comes with Acrobat Reader, so it’s already on millions of desktops.

Flash Builder

Flash Builder, formerly Flex Builder, is the Integrated Development Environment (IDE) that you can use to create (and debug) your FLEX, MXML and Flash, Actionscript code.  As a long time user of Microsoft’s visual development environments, I’m used to being able to debug my code and measure it’s performance.  Flash Builder looks great.

Adobe Flash Catalyst

Adobe Flash Catalyst, formerly known as Thermo, allows you to convert your Photoshop, Illustrator or Fireworks designs into interactive prototypes.  Developers will no longer have to re-create artwork and UI interactions.

Checking Your Calendar and Talking on the iPhone at the Same Time

October 7, 2009

Palm Pre

Palm Pre

I was watching a demo of the Palm Pre which shows multitasking features and really great “Synergy” which allows you to check all your email in one place or view all of your contact information from one place and much more.  See: Palm Pre Video.

iPhone Calendar

iPhone Calendar

With my iPhone I can talk on the phone and check my calendar at the same time.  BUT it’s hard because I can’t hear the person talking to me very well when I’m looking at the calendar.

Apple- can you please make the volume higher on the iPhone?
